Cellbond has been involved in the development of a number of deformable barriers for passive safety testing, frequently in cooperation with their customers, for example ADAC, IIHS, TRL and EuroNCAP. The NHTSA barrier was the first deformable barrier that was taken over into an official standard, the US Federal Standard for Side Impact Protection (FMVSS 214). More recently, this barrier has also been adopted into the updated FMVSS 301.
