Cellbond is pleased to offer Corex Calibrated Aluminium Honeycomb Core (also known as Honeycomb Core or Aluminium Core), which has a very high strength to weight ratio and is known for energy absorbing properties. Among the many applications i which energy absorbing aluminium honeycomb is used are passive automotive safety, subsystem component testing, and dummy neck calibration. Cellbond was one of the early pioneers in the current method of honeycomb certification and calibration. This concept was adopted by NHTSA and has become the standard method for honeycomb crush strength testing.
Cellbond offers expanded Corex aluminium honeycomb, which is cut to the required size and supplied calibrated in order to guarantee a specific crush strength. For each batch of core, a number of material samples undergo quasi-static compression testing in order to establish its force level throughout the crush until densification, whilst ignoring the typical initial force peak. Various densities, honeycomb cell sizes and aluminium alloys are available.
In order to match more specific applications, other types can be provided on request. Passive safety and component testing present a variety of applications using aluminium honeycomb for energy absorption.
