Development & Testing

Dynamic & Static Test Facilities

INTRODUCTION

Since its foundation in 1988 Cellbond has continually invested in-house testing facilities. The design and development of a second drop test tower and firing head facilities represents the next milestone in the expansion of Cellbond’s research and development programme.

TECHNICAL SPECIFICATIONS: DROP TEST TOWERS

The test facilities allow detailed investigation of a wide range of energy absorbing materials and conditions. These are key to our R & D in vehicle safety, occupant and pedestrian protection, finite element analysis/simulations and Cellbond’s excellent quality record.

Besides major car manufacturers, OEMs and test houses are benefiting from our comprehensive test facilities.

CLIMATIC TESTING

The CTS Climatic chamber is used for temperature and cycle testing as well as humidity testing.

The space capacity is 50 litres and it has a microprocessor control and monitoring unit.

Prior to testing, the temperature of the sample can be altered in the range of -40ºC to +180ºC

QUASI-STATIC TESTING

Quasi-static testing can be conducted on four different test machines:

  • LR150K Lloyd Instruments
  • LR50K Lloyd Instruments
  • Instron Static Load Cell 100kN Model 3343

These machines are used in a wide range of applications for vehicle occupant including: static crush strength, angle shear, peel, tensile, climbing drum and node bond strength of standard and chemically treated honeycomb structures. A typical application is that we statically test all honeycomb used in deformable crash test barriers as part of our conformity of production procedure and energy absorbers.

It is further used for examining different energy absorbing applications for occupant and pedestrian protection.

HEADFORM FIRING/CERTIFICATION MACHINE

Headform Firing Mode:

Our machine is able to fire a range of headforms including:

  • 2.5kg and 4.8kg WG17 Headforms
  • 3.5kg and 4.5kg JARI/ISO Headforms
  • 3.5kg ACEA Headforms

It has the capacity to fire the headforms at velocities of up to 11.1 m/s. Samples can be held at angles from 0-45º.

WG17 Head Form Certification Mode:

The machine fires a 1kg impactor at 10m/s and 7m/s. A light gate verifies impactor velocity before impact. The headform is hung on a 2m wire on the centre line of the 1kg impactor.

QUALITY

Cellbond is accredited to ISO 9001:2008 and strives to continually improve its quality systems. Our aim is to provide our customers with the best quality products.
