Honeycomb for Flex PLI Calibration

The Flexible Pedestrian Leg Impactor has been developed by JARI and is part of the draft Global Technical Regulation (GTR). The leg calibration procedure includes testing with a pendulum for every 10 car tests, as well as an inverse linear impact before homologation and after every 30 car tests. The inverse calibration test uses a piece of aluminium honeycomb mounted onto a moving ram with 8.1kg mass and a speed of 11.1m/s into the Flex PLI.

Designation: 3/16 - 5052
Crush strength: 75 psi +0% -10%
Thickness: 60mm

Calibration of the honeycomb material to the above mentioned crush strength allows less variation and ensures repeatable crush behaviour.

The honeycomb is supplied ready cut to the required thickness in the impact direction, and to length and width as requested for testing.
